I’ve got a Blog…now what?
I have talked about blogging in the past alot as I feel it is the perfect way for you to establish yourself as an expert in your field or hobby. Today I am going to give you a few tips on moving the blog along as I have had many people ask me what happens after I get the blog all setup?
Commit, commit, commit - you have to schedule postings at least once a week in order to gain any type of readership. A mistake I see more often than not is that someone sets up a blog, posts four or five times and lets it sit for 6 months.
Produce Relevant content - there must be something going in your line of business right now, talk about it, give your opinion and be passionate about it.
Produce Content that can be scanned - It may come to a surprise to you that only about 15% of users actually read web content line for line, that means alot of people are scanning your article for important topics. Make this easier for them with Lists, Headings, Bold Type, Paragraphs and a well thought out post.
Produce Content that allows your readers to interact - Think of your blog as a place where your readers can come by for some information, but also be part of the conversation. How do you do that? With posting relevant topics that allow others to offer their opinion instead of talking down to them.
Spread the Love - I really enjoy reading Monkey Brains, a blog on Email Marketing. If you scroll to the bottom of the post, you will see that they make it very easy for you to post the article with “Spread the monkey love”.
Wrap your blog into your Social Networks - Everytime you post to your blog, blast it out to your social networks. I will be posting this article to Twitter, Facebook and Pownce as soon as I finish it. That will add readers to your posts as well as comments and if you are lucky, you will pick up a few more RSS readers (more on RSS in a future post).
Lets start with these I have talked about above and see if that helps you grow your blog over the next three or so months. If you are to just pick one, Commit, commit, commit! As always - If you ever have any questions on the article, feel free to contact me or post comments below.
