local, national, international
What is the website?
Well-Funded or Bootstrapped?
bootstrapped
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
In 5 years I expect that my other company Cape Card will be my primary source of revenue. In 10 years I would expect that Cape Card will be huge. Ideas spawn more ideas.
Where were you born - where do you live now?
Born in NYC. Now live in Marstons Mills
PC or Mac?
Mac since 1985!
Where did you go to school?
Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana , School of Visual Arts, NYC
What Social Networks are you on?
Linkedin, Facebook, Myspace, Plaxo, Konnect, talentdatabase.com, etsy.com and related groups.
Greatest invention ever?
Electricity. Ben Franklin hit on something huge when he proved that lightning and electricity were the same.
For the next 150 years scientists in England, Europe, colonial America, and later the United States analyzed electricity in nature, but producing it outside of nature was another matter. That didn’t happen on any large scale until the late 19th century. Setting the stage for widespread commercial use of electricity were international researchers engaged in pure scientific research, and entrepreneurial businessmen who made their own major discoveries or produced, marketed, and sold products based on others’ ideas.”
The experiences of electricity’s founding fathers parallel in many ways the electronic technology breakthroughs of the past half-century that have brought us a whirlwind of innovation in computer hardware, software, and Internet communications. Just as a wave of electrical inventions dramatically changed the world as the 20th century progressed, so can we anticipate a steadily escalating rate of innovation in these emerging electronic disciplines beyond the dawn of the 21st century.*
So now I sit here at my computer after being out in the water this morning helping the environmental department in it’s Quahog propogation effort in my bathing suit getting ready to start another day as a graphic designer in paradise thanks to modern technology.
*The quoted paragraphs from A Brief History of Electricity by Rosalie E. Leposky
Person you believe has contributed most to the world of technology?
Steve Jobs. I am sort of biased here. I’m sure there are others who contributed to the world of technology, but Jobs vision has made my lifestyle possible.
Where have you traveled in your life?
U.S. - Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, California, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, New Mexico, Michigan, Illinois
Internationally: Italy, France, England, Mexico, various islands in the Caribbean
Why set up shop on Cape Cod?
I was originally going to move my studio out of Manhattan up to Westchester, but after bringing my computer up here for five weeks the summer of 1991, I decided to just move the studio and family here. We had vacationed here for many years, and it didn’t seem to matter where I was at that point. Cape Card, which I started at the beginning of this year was totally influenced by living here, and has totally solidified Cape Cod as my base.
5 Websites you go to every day?
capecard.etsy.com, yahoo.com, newyorktimes.com, youtube.com, google.com
Various designer, illustrator and photographer’s sites. I haven’t really done that much with the social networking sites. I find even my email signal a distraction. I can’t imagine having other things twittering around.
What’s on your iPod right now?
No idea. I gave it to my wife.
What is on your desktop/screensaver right now?
Gray background. Again, I don’t like distractions when I’m working.
You are on a deserted island - do you bring a laptop or book?
Book. One needs electricity for a laptop.
Phone call or text message?
phone
Feel free to tell us anything else….?
I’m an active musician, especially in the summer playing tuba, bass trombone and euphonium. Actually, I’m still in the musician’s union, but haven’t had a union gig in quite a while. We have two British Shorthair cats, the Dicken’s brothers, Oliver and Pip. In the summer my daughter’s Pugs, Mason and Lizzy summer with us and provide me with an endless source of Pug art for Cape Card.
Thank you for your time, Andy!
