Greatest invention ever?

The iPhone
There have been dozens of Smartphones introduced over the past decade, all promising to transform the mobile Internet to mass use. Some have come close. I loved my first Blackberry … finally I was free to roam away from the office without missing a minute of email. But the Blackberry and later Smartphone introductions came up short. They were simply tools for certain tasks: email, contacts and phone.

Then came the iPhone: I was a reluctant convert … I have NEVER been impressed by new technology introductions. After a friend wowed me with his after several cocktails one late winter night in an Osterville restaurant, I went out and bought it the next day!

So why is the iPhone the greatest invention?
It is the first handheld device that is a true computer. I doubt it will replace our laptops and desktops, but it will fundamentally transform how we communicate, work and entertain ourselves.

With it you can:
-         Email
-         Communicate (as a phone, using text messaging, Social & Professional networking)
-         Browse the web the same as on any other computer
-         Entertain yourself with music & video
-         Educate yourself
-         Get news, weather, finance information
-         Find your location, traffic and directions
-         Plan Travel

Arguably all of the above can be performed on other SmartPhones, but I contend this is the first handheld computer that has bridged the divide for technophobes. I showed it to my 95 year old grandmother on her birthday, and in minutes even she was able to use it! Apple has established the iPhone as one of the more significant advances in technology and computing (mobile or otherwise) in the past 3 decades.

Footnote: I asked my 95 year old grandmother what she thought the best technology invention was. She answered, ‘the telephone.’ So I suppose in some odd way, we agree some form of the telephone is the most significant advance in 100 years. But I think mine is better.

Person you believe has contributed most to the world of technology?

There is no one person … it has taken thousands of inventors working over the decades and centuries to make technology what it is today.
It is all of these pioneers, many of whom we work with every day, who make working in the field so rewarding.

Where have you traveled in your life?
Paris, London, Rome, throughout U.K. and Ireland, half a dozen Caribbean Islands (Anguilla being the fav), 25 States and most major U.S. cities.

Why set up shop on Cape Cod?

I can’t imagine a better place …
If you can do what you love and live where you love, why not?

You are on a deserted island – do you bring a laptop or book?

Book
 – 2 things:
1) Laptop will be dead in 4-6 hrs without power & web. Unless … I could figure out a way to make it attract fish?
2) A computer is a tool, a means to an end. I’d rather enjoy the good book, even if I have to read it over and over again.

Phone call or text message?

Neither – Email from my iPhone

Thanks for your time, Christopher!
