Holy Hermaphrodite, Batman - It’s the Dark Knight Martini!
In honor of the release of the latest Batman movie, I decided I would like to pay homage to the winged one with a new cocktail which I have called the “Dark Knight Martini”. In addition, I am going to have everyone respond and vote for the BBE - Best Batman Ever. Well, there were only 5 so this should not involve such incredible brain stimuli. In this post, we will explore the 5 famous chiroptera thespians of your own choosing and why you would choose them as the Top Bat.
Now, you may be a Superman fan or a Spiderman fan, but this is bat territory and we want your input. Besides, Superman is a silly man in tights who is the most obvious illegal alien ever, and Spiderman just never caught my fancy as a totally cool super hero. Besides, we know the only real “web master” knows Ruby on Rails programming…and he does not wear tights. Do you, Ryan?
So my friends, imbibe on this tasty cocktail whilst you choose your favorite Batman and why and also let us know if you have seen the Dark Knight at the theater and what you thought.
The Dark Knight Martini
4 fluid ounces chocolate liqueur
3 fluid ounces vodka
1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate, grated
Directions:
In a cocktail mixer full of ice, combine chocolate liqueur and vodka. Shake vigorously and strain into 2 chilled martini glasses. Put on your bat tights and garnish with chocolate shavings.
Who is the Best Batman Ever?
1.) Adam West
Adam West was the first Batman in the 1966 movie entitled appropriately, Batman: The Movie. While the acting was somewhat atrocious, it was quite funny and oh so ’60’s. The fighting was on par with a cat fight amongst RuPaul imitators sometimes, never quite realistic and brutal like we expect from say a WWE wrestling match. Batman himself seemed to be not at all athletic but a downright couch potato in that his tights always seemed like they were covering something gelatinous at times. Like a Portuguese Man ‘0 War stuffed in his mini shorts.
But Bruce Wayne was one slick ’60’s playboy - just look at that wardrobe. Either that or he and Robin knew each other a lot more than they had us believe. Two dudes in colorful tights in that vehicle HAD to make everyone perk up their ears a little. And what about Aunt Harriet? Crazy, insane Aunt Harriet? I cannot totally believe that she did not know about the freaking Bat Mobile under the house? C’mon. Women know if you are hiding anything from them. Even if they never want to come down to your bat cave due to the large amounts of unhygienic guano. They know.
2.) Michael Keaton
Michael Keaton was the first Bat Man in the modern era. He was in two movies Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992). Now I totally loved Michael Keaton in Night Shift, and if you have never watched it, watch it.
“What if you mix the mayonnaise in the can, WITH the tunafish? Or… hold it! Chuck! I got it! Take LIVE tuna fish, and FEED ‘em mayonnaise!”
And next to my #1 Batman I would say he is pretty close up there because he was the first in the modern era. And he got to play opposite Jack Nicholson as the Joker. How cool was that?
3.) Val Kilmer
Val who? Yes, that is right. Val Kilmer did play Batman in Batman Forever (1995). Let’s just refer to Val as the “George Lazenbys of Batmen”. You were great in The Saint - should have made a Saint 2 and left the Batbootie to someone else.
4.) George Clooney
No matter how much you probably love George Clooney (AKA Dave Fravel) I have one word. Nipples. Nipples. Nipples. Nipples don’t belong on the BATMAN! At this point, the Batman series was so silly that it just naturally died an agonizing death. And George went on to his other movies which he became a big star for. Despite his sultry looks and witty dialogue, he was not the right Batman in Batman & Robin (1997). Must have been the nipples. I’m sure his nipples in real life are pretty nice, though.
5.) Christian Bale
Remember my post on “Who is the Best James Bond?” and I picked Daniel Craig? I must admit - I’m going for the British hottie here again. I think Christian Bale is the hottest Batman Ever and I will tell you why. He’s hot. He’s handsome. He is not on tv telling everyone about his views on global warming. He never gets in trouble. He doesn’t market his own cologne, underwear or vodka. Though the vodka would be okay in my book. And he was in American Psycho. Ya gotta love Chistian Bale in that movie with the business card scene.
Christian Bale American Psycho
Christian starred in the first ultra-modern adaptation of Batman in, Batman Begins (2005) and now The Dark Knight (2008). Batman Begins was freaking awesome. The ninja scenes, the cars and definitely the part where they gave Katie Holmes poison. Unfortunately she woke up. And then decided to put the world in jeopardy by breeding with @TomCruiseIsAnAlien.
I expect GREAT things from the Dark Knight, and I have a feeling Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger will not disappoint.
So add your comments below on who the best Batman was and go see the Dark Knight. No, I’m not a paid sponsor for Warner Brothers. I just love a man in a Bat Suit….ya hear that, Chris?

That sounds like a killer martini! I think I may go and see the Dark Night…its been a while since I’ve seen a crazy budget film like this one. As for favorite batman..I like the original, although those tights wouldn’t fly on the big screen these days….the costume budgets are much higher. I’m not a Keaton fan or Kilmer but Dave Fravel as Batman would be great! I don’t know the other dude….but looks like a good flick.
Dark Knight is a must see for sure, though it might be a better game plant to go after the crowds die down a bit.
Christian Bale BBE!!! Can’t wait to see this movie on IMAX.

What about Batman the animated series. I always liked the visuals and the comic book sense of style…

Christian Bale is the best Batman by far! I liked Keaton way back when, but that film was more in the style of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” minus the animation. It very much had that cartoony/comic book feel. The current releases; Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are much more real. The characters are deeply disturbed, but not played out over-the-top. I highly recommend going to see The Dark Knight - it is worth all the hype. I thought Heath Ledger was getting rave reviews because of the public sympathy for his death, but his performance was terrifically top-notch. It’s too bad he’s not here to enjoy all the accolades…and yes, the best part of the whole movie is that there is no sign of Katie Holmes! CAUTION: SPOILER ALERT: Although in this film it would have been nice to have her just for Rachel Dawes death. Hooray for director Christopher Nolan and kudos the casting agent for replacing Mrs. Cruise…she is just awful in everything and I’m glad her alien captor keeps her locked up, but I digress.
As for the orginal Batman, Adam West; he is doing just great as the Mayor of Quahog, RI on Family Guy! No tights required!
