WritingRoom: A social network for writers and readers

writingroom.pngWritingRoom.com is a new social network built for writers or anyone who has a story to tell. WritingRoom is a community where writers can work, independently or with others, communicate, get encouragement and meet people with similar interests. According to WritingRoom the site can help publishers find the next “New York Times bestseller or producers find the next Academy Award winning screenplay”. This niche social network is aimed at writers, students, and readers.

Once a member you can create writings; read, rate and critique others; get help and advice from other members as well as the other normal social networking sites functions.

WritingRoom.com is currently in its beta phase so they are looking for feedback on the community as well as ideas for future functionality. Currently it seems like pretty much every other social network out there, just to serve it’s little niche. There is nothing wrong with this, but personally I would much rather be a part of a community like TriggerStreet.com. Which is a web startup formed in 1997 by actor Kevin Spacey to create a community for writers. This was one of the original social networks around and it all started for the writer niche community. WritingRoom is a good start but has a ways to go and needs to something special to get writers over to it’s site. But have a look at it and you be the judge.
