Steve Garfield from SteveGarfield.com

Steve Garfield is every where! He is one of the best “media men” you will find anywhere. I encourage you to take a look at some of his blogs, groups and videos and make sure you follow his updates on Twitter. It is well worth it!

Who are you, what is your blog and the URL?

My name is Steve Garfield from SteveGarfield.com
SteveGarfield.com is the gateway to a number of my blogs.

The main blogs are:
Off On A Tangent
Steve Garfield’s Video Blog

You can find more info on me here.

I also had a topical blog for the election:
One Lie A Day

In addition to my own blogs I also contribute to TechPresident and TheUpTake.org.

Where did the idea for the blog come about?

The idea for Off On A Tangent came about to share things I discussed with friends at lunch. The video blog was created on January 1, 2004 as a technical challenge to see if I could put video in a blog.

What has been the coolest/funniest/most rewarding (or worst) thing that has happened since you started the blog?

I’ve had many rewarding experiences from blogging.  Meeting so many great people and forming lifelong friendships has been an amazing direct effect of all my blogging activities.

If any of your readers are interested in meeting other bloggers they can come to my Boston Media Makers meeting that takes place in Jamaica Plain on the first Sunday of every month.

Why do you think your blog became so famous/successful?

I don’t know how famous or successful it is…  I just write authentic posts.  I share how I feel about things.  I enjoy explaining technology and new products.  People are looking for a trusted source for information on things like technology, travel and social media… That’s what I enjoy writing about.

Where do you think you will take it in the next year? 5 Years?

A few years ago I thought that one day we’d be able to stream live video from the street to a webpage. Now we can. Over the past year I’ve traveled the country sharing my story on how anyone can share stories with video.

My wife and I do a fun video show called The Carol and Steve Show.  We like to travel and share tips on different destinations.  Here are some shows from 2008

We’ve been in talks with some hotel chains about traveling to all their locations and doing shows when we get there…  I’d love to develop that.

What do you do when you aren’t blogging?

Thinking about blogging, taking photos of what I’m eating and drinking and sharing them on flickr, watching TV.  I love TV and now that the Fall season is here, I’m ready to settle in for new episodes of Heroes, LOST, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Ever been to Cape Cod?

Yes. We love Cape Cod and Nantucket.

Steve is great, Tom & I love going to the Media Makers Meeting on Sundays, everyone shares, asks questions, gets answers, learns something new from someone…we have made some great connections there…anyone that is in Boston on the first Sunday of the month should look it up.
