The Perfect Martini

martini_time.jpg

Well, the perfect martini of course, is the FREE martini..okay, well the info is free but you have to buy the booze yourself.

Every Monday, we are going to post a new martini - the ingredients, the taste test results from barflys picked at random, and the origns of the drink, if we can find them.

If YOU have a Martini recipe worth sharing, email us here with “Martini Monday” in the subject line. If you are a bartender, tell us where you work and we will give you a link to your bar/restuarant/pub’s website as a thanky-thanky, and post your pic or the pic of the martini. Your boss will love you for the free publicity courtesy of @Bar.

So send in those recipes and let us know what you drink in your shaker…or do you like yours stirred???

I am fortunate that I’m married to the best mixologist in the universe. He is able to analyze a cocktail and figure out how to make it without the benefit of a recipe. If you really like a cocktail that’s made to be sipped and savored, I recommend the Vintage Cocktail book. This is one recipe from that book and fits the bill for a late summer afternoon after boating or beaching:

A cocktail created in 1939 connection with the introduction of the new streamlined Dreyfus Hudson Engine which began pulling the Twentieth Century Limited train between New York City and Chicago in 1938. The recipe was first published in 1939 in the Cafe Royal Bar Book. Recipe:
1 1/2 ounces (1/3 gill, 4.5 cl.) gin
3/4 ounce (1/6 gill, 2 cl.) Lillet Blanc
3/4 ounce (1/6 gill, 2 cl.) light creme de cacao
3/4 ounce (1/6 gill, 2 cl.) fresh lemon juice
Shake in an iced cocktail shaker, and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
From the book by Ted Haigh: Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails, Quarry Books, 2004.
